Independent golfing holiday in Scotland, home of golf...Do you have the time and money to play golf in Scotland and want to travel independently but don't quite know how to go about it? You want the freedom to be on your own--to play and stay where you wish--but also the feeling of security and comfort? Then this site was created for you, someone who not only plays golf but also wants to see and appreciate the local scenes, the history, the people and their culture.
Scottish links golf courses grow out of the land. To appreciate them and enjoy them more, you really have to know something of the culture and the environment out of which they were born. The little things are what define a place--the small details that most golfing travelers (especially those in golf touring groups) never have the time or opportunity to enjoy. But you will, because your aim is not to play and bolt (or should we say hit and run?) but to experience the richness and unexpected delights of the local Scottish culture. But what if you are like us--one (Richard) who loves the game of golf and plays to a mid-handicap, the other (Mary-Alice, obviously) who is not a golfer but loves the architecture, the aesthetics, and the tradition of golf courses as well as spending time in the British Isles? How do you create a holiday to please both? Well, we have found a way, and it came about quite naturally. If you are committed to independent travel, blending in with and savouring the local scene and avoiding tourist-y activities, you can benefit greatly from our golfing/non-golfing experiences. And...both of you end up happy because while the golfer is enjoying the delights of the incomparable Scottish links golf courses, the non-golfer is savouring the delights of the area. Plus, here's something you'll really appreciate... Independent golfing travel saves you thousands of dollars!!!
Golf Nook Scotland is for people who really love the game of golf--the history and tradition, the great players and famous courses, the skill involved, the game itself with all of its frustrations and rewards. If you're the one who maintains a respectful silence at golf tournaments while the person next to you screams "GET IN THE HOLE," or if you're the one who replaces divots and repairs your own ball mark and then looks for another to repair, or if you're the one in your foursome who suggests letting the group behind you play through, this site is for you. If you respect the game, if you love the lore and the aesthetics of the great courses, the stories about the great players and the skill involved with this frustratingly seductive game, we think you'll enjoy Golf Nook Scotland. How Golf Nook Scotland came about- Ever since we began coming to Scotland several years ago, we'd been on a fruitless quest for a source of solid information for people like us--a plan already worked out that would hold our hand, so to speak. Over the years we've met many others also wishing for a reliable, user-friendly source for independent golfing/non-golfing holidays in Scotland. Since we are writers by profession, we decided to create the material ourselves! This website is written by the two of us, so after this intro we'll each be creating our own sections. And we admit it--our opinions and recommendations are very biased, strictly our own as the result of our experiences, and may not always concur with the popular ideas. We offer them to you in the hope we've de-mystified the process of putting together an independent golfing/non-golfing holiday in Scotland. An independent golfing trip is highly do-able
We love everything about the game of golf,
the great Scottish links courses. It has
taken us to some of the most beautiful places
in the British Isles. As you read through these pages you will
sense our avid enthusiasm for Scotland, and
will soon feel your own enthusiasm building.
The basic how-to is all laid out here for
you. Go ahead and do it. You'll have one
of the most memorable times of your life.
And this trip won't be a "once-in-a-lifetime-trip,"
it will be the beginning of many trips once
you discover how easy it is to do. |
